Born in Dominica, Bernard Richards, visual artist, developed a loyal following in the Caribbean, and Internationally.
Moving to Toronto, he became a graphic artist for many years, but today he creates his art full-time.
As an artist, Bernard is still dedicated to expressing his personal vision in a fresh way; always with a twist of sarcasm and whimsy.
In August of 2002, Bernard was struck down by a massive stroke. He not only permanently lost use of his painting hand, but he also lost his language skills.
Against all medical odds, Bernard regained almost all life skills. His need to paint was so great that over a couple of years, Bernard retrained himself to paint with his left (unaffected) hand.
Bernard, an inspiration to many has been featured in magazines and news articles.
Today, Bernard communicates almost exclusively through his colourful paintings which speak volumes about strength, happiness, and the will of a man who chooses to live and to celebrate life.
